First thoughts: KAYAKING IS NOT AS EASY AS WE HAD HOPED!
This evening, for just £5 each, we managed to get on the Camden Canal with a group of other amateur paddlers and a couple of guides. When we arrived at The Pirate Castle we got chatting to one of the guides, Jack, who managed to show us which (beginner) kayaks we should be taking out on this first attempt, as well as giving us some initial training.
The first hurdle we came across was actually getting into the kayaks from the side of the canal! Balance and technique was not something that Grant nor I had realised would be so crucial! Anyway, without taking on any water, we managed to get in the kayaks (mine was manly and pink) and we paddled the 1.5miles from the Camden Lock to the Maida Hill tunnel and back.
Despite being tough to begin with, Grant and I were not disheartened, but realised the size of the task ahead of us! Looks like we will be back at Pirate Castle a lot over the coming weeks!
